You are a speck
Why are science fags so obsessed with their own relative insignificance? “Our planet is small, therefore our lives are insignificant, durrrr.” No, totally, Sagan fanboys: it isn’t our perception or experience or creation or emotion that determines our lives’ importance; it’s the proportion of matter the rock we live on makes up of the Universe. Rubes.
Being insignificant to the universe doesn’t mean we aren’t significant to ourselves or on the earth.
But yes, we are insignificant to the universe.
Not that the universe itself is significant.
It’s fascinating to put our existence in perspective, regarding the entire universe. In some way (this is solely my opinion), I think it may be comforting. People who are religious are consoled by the fact that their life has meaning and that they will reach a goal in the end (afterlife). People who observe and acknowledge the vastness of the universe may find comfort in knowing that whatever mistake they make, whatever happens, in the grand scheme of things it won’t matter, ever. Entirely opposite conditions but similar in some sense.
EVERYTHING IS A DREAM YOU GUISE
NONE OF THIS EXISTS
THIS DIAGRAM IS A LIE
REALITY IS AN ILLUSION
they actually raise some very good points though.
and this does put things into perspective a lil bit.
